The WIC Branch is pleased to support local Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) agencies that are focusing on the development of top quality WIC nutrition services funded through Best Practices Grants. Best Practices Grants provide additional WIC funds to local WIC agencies to conduct activities or projects that improve the delivery of core WIC nutrition services to the "best practices" or exemplary level - exceeding the minimum or routine performance level. In federal fiscal year (FFY) 2003, California WIC awarded almost $2 million for 32 Best Practices projects throughout the state.

Best Practices abstracts highlight each project's goals and activities, a contact person at the local WIC agency, and are grouped by the following WIC Nutrition Services Areas from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Nutrition Services Standards:

• Breastfeeding Promotion and Support
• Clinic Environment and Customer Service
